Success Story

Army Spc. Austin Johnson and his wife, Lisa, suffered a tragedy that no family should ever endure. Like many wives of our wounded warriors, Lisa, 26, was the glue for her family after her husband was injured by an IED for the fifth time. He was evacuated from Iraq to Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, where he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress and a traumatic brain injury. Lisa and their three children made several long trips to be with Austin as he recovered. On their Oct. 13, 2007 road trip, a gust of wind caused Lisa to lose control of their SUV. The vehicle rolled four times, killing Ashley Johnson, 5, and her brother, Logan, 2. Tyler Johnson, 9, died three weeks later. Operation Homefront, a national organization that assists troops and their families, helped the Johnsons with financial assistance, getting them qualified for Social Security benefits, finding a lender to help them buy a home in and new furniture donations for their home. Operation Homefront continued to help the Johnsons throughout the year following the accident. 

The Johnsons are just one of the families who have benefited from Operation Homefront. With more than 4,500 volunteers serving chapters nationwide and has met more than 105,000 needs of military families. Operation Homefront is the premiere nonprofit organization reaching out to our military families in need.
