Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

Mission

We support Intrepid Spirit Centers at military bases across the country - specialized facilities and programs for the research, diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress (PTS) in wounded service personnel.

Success Story

Following a head injury sustained on an obstacle course, Sgt. Paige Behringer felt disconnected from her head, suffering extreme pain and trouble forming thoughts and finding words. She found herself screaming over trivial matters, which was out of character, like when her husband bought whole milk instead of two percent. Unable to sleep and control her emotions after a recommended month’s brain rest, she was referred to the Intrepid Spirit Center at Fort Bragg.

Early on, Sgt. Behringer learned why this clinic was so unique. Everything is under one roof and the facility is “brimming with providers, specialists and therapists focused only on TBI and associated conditions.” She found it comforting to continue to see the same specialists that were part of the initial consultation. “The daily frustration I felt when I couldn’t recall a simple word or remember someone’s name slowly began to ease.”

When she “graduated” from her therapy, she cried “tears of relief the whole way home. I did it; I recovered.... The range of care [at the Intrepid Spirit Center] seemed almost limitless from my experience. I am grateful for the team who helped me on this path, and that this resource was within reach to put me back together.”
